Part 41 of this series provides a brief background on my Freedom Of Information (FOI) investigations of the Premier’s Office for the time period January 1, 2012 through October 1, 2012. The attached letter is part of my appeal of the original disclosure presented in Gas Busters Part 23.
The attached document is from the Cabinet Office and dated April 26, 2013. This new material indicates that emails from the Premier’s Office’s former Chief of Staff, former Principal Secretary, and former Deputy Director of Policy responsive to my FOI for 2012 gas plant docs have been destroyed. The letter states, “It has also been confirmed by IT staff that these emails accounts cannot be restored from any back-up tapes.”
I have asked the Information and Privacy Commissioner office to investigate whether this destruction of government documents is legal. Cabinet Office has promised to respond to this inquiry on Monday May 6.
I believe that the Deputy Director of Policy referred to in this correspondence is Sean Mullin. Peter Tabuns of the NDP expertly cross-examined Mr. Mullin on his scorched information strategy. To my knowledge, the information in the attachment breaks new ground in revealing that Mr. Mullin was not the only senior McGuinty advisor using this cover-up strategy.
How convenient!
This is nothing more than a “rogue Government” operating totally without any responsibility being accepted for it’s actions!
And Andrea Horwath condones it!
I would suggest that WE, the people start considering “abolishment” of this level of “Government” on the basis that it is no longer worthy of Trust!
“I have asked the Information and Privacy Commissioner office to investigate whether this destruction of government documents is legal.”–such actions would be classed as ‘Falsification of Books and Documents’ [ s. 397, Criminal Code of Canada]; and contrary to section 380 of the Criminal Code {Fraud}.
An interesting read, check it out Tom, with some stiff penalties to boot…..julian
