Tony Keller, a prominent Canadian journalist, presented the following insightful, concise, and forcefully stated analysis of Ontario’s Green Energy Act on the TVO program “The Agenda With Steve Paikin” on Thursday March 18th.
Elements of Mr. Keller’s analysis that I think are particularly important include his concerns about the broadly negative implications of excessive electricity prices, the negative employment implications, and the ineffectiveness of the Green Energy Act for achieving green house gas emission reductions. I am fairly skeptical about the potential for electric vehicles — a technology that Mr. Keller correctly identifies are vulnerable to higher power prices — but Mr. Keller’s wider point that rising power prices will cause harm and economic dislocation should be taken seriously.
It’s a very smart essay. If you go to TVO’s link instead of Tony’s — at http://www.tvo.org/cfmx/tvoorg/theagenda/index.cfm?page_id=7&bpn=779976&ts=2011-03-17%2020:00:00.0 — you can see both parts of the show itself, as well as Tony’s commentary on it. Naturally, I recommend my own 15 minutes 1-on-1 with Steve Paikin, but it’s “viewer’s choice”!
