Resisting Ontario Power Bill Rip-Off

One Ontario taxpayer/ratepayer has had enough of the Ontario power bill rip-off and is taking action. In an unprecedented submission to the Ontario Energy Board filed today, retired banker Parker Gallant is demanding that the Ontario Energy Board reverse a recent ruling that allowed the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA) to bleed ratepayers for costs incurred advocating for more subsidized transmission service for wind and solar farms. The Ontario Energy Board award in favour of OSEA appeared to accept OSEA’s claim that “We represent the consumer interests“. Gallant counters that OSEA as a front organization for Governments at two levels”, pointing out that OSEA is sucking up taxpayer cash from two Ontario government ministries, two taxpayer-funded Ontario government agencies, and one taxpayer-funded City of Toronto agency. Gallant concludes “OSEA obtained a favourable ruling from the Board in its May 21, 2010 Decision on Cost Eligibility under false and misleading information from OSEA. It is therefore necessary for the Board to reverse the elements of its Decision on Cost Eligibility that allowed OSEA to absorb an even greater quantum of public funds than it has already.

The same decision of the Ontario Energy Board that allowed OSEA to sextuple dip taxpayers and ratepayers also dinged ratepayers for the costs of promoting the interests of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPRO), the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA), and the Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) in the Board’s transmission planning review.

  1. Thanks for this info.Tom -great work again.
    It’s becoming more evident daily that our government is being run by
    parasitic NGO’s -they are everywhere and with their grubby little hands in our pockets.

  2. I read this post last evening, but I was too ticked off to discuss it. This circus has gone beyond farce. The whole affair needs to be investigated. The social contract between this government and the electorate has been broken. You are uncovering some very disturbing information here, Tom. I guess good investigative reporting is not dead after all. I strongly encourage people to read the submission to the OED by Parker Gallant. Any chance Andre Marin could look into this?

  3. Mr. Gallant should be very careful, as should you Tom, as the OPP are now investigating and visiting people who object to wind energy. Apparently, if you have the temerity to express your concern about Ontario’s energy supply plan, you are now labelled a “resistor”. Using the OPP to intimidate innocent citizens under the guise of maintaining ‘public safety’ is an outrage.

  4. Lynne;

    Thats just paranoid B.S. ,,, Talk like that just make us all look like idiots. The man just called her because her name showed up on an internet search as someone that was opposing the IPC site and the cops were trying to make sure everyone was going to play nice in the same sandbox.

    I am happy they are checking to see if any crazies are amongst us. Just because someone says they are against wind dosnt mean you they are sane and rational. If some jerk showed up with Molotov cocktails you would be the first to bitch the cops didn’t do their job to protect you.

  5. I agree with Martha. The police may well have information that Lynne does not have. With the information now available, I continue to presume that the OPP are doing their jobs appropriately and ought to be supported in their work.

  6. Just to clarify, it was Mike Crawley from International Power (and also past President of the Liberal party) who asked the OPP to investigate those people involved with Wind Concerns Ontario. The local OPP knew nothing about all this.

    Officers drove all the way down from Toronto just to question/ investigate the “potential” protestors. No protest was even planned at that time. It was a fishing exhibition by a privileged wind developer.

  7. Correct me if I am wrong, M Anderson, but were four people not contacted by this special unit of the OPP? Martha,is it not unusual for the OPP to show up at lawful citizens’ doors to inquire if they plan on participating in a lawful protest? Did they show up at the doors of suspected protestors for the G20? It was just intimidation.

  8. I just hope to see the OPP make background checks of my municipal council, the wind reps and pro-windies in my community too. Not just me, some rural chick that happened to speak up against wind turbines surrounding her kid’s school. Seems a little one-sided when you are in my shoes.

  9. Note that Mr. Gallant’s application was turned down by the OEB. However, following this decision the OEB started to refusal to award costs for OSEA and its allies. OSEA’s losing streak includes at least EB-2010-0175 and EB-2010-0215.

  10. Note that Mr. Gallant’s application was turned down by the OEB. However, following this decision the OEB started to refuse applications for award costs from OSEA and similar groups. OSEA’s losing streak includes at least EB-2010-0175 and EB-2010-0215.
